Volunteer harvesters sought for community scheme

VOLUNTEER potato harvesters are being sought to help with a community scheme in Southern Maryland in the US.

Those in the community helped the plantation plant acres of different varieties of potatoes. Historic Sotterley’s Growing for Good program grows the potatoes and other produce for donation to local food banks and pantries. The potatoes are now ready to be lifted and an appeal for help has gone out.

Sotterley’s Growing for Good program is now in its eigth year, and over the past seven years,  has donated more than 70,000lb of fresh produce and other foods to the community.

It has partnered with Farmer’s Feeding Southern Maryland which is also dedicated to giving back to those most in need.
