Seasonal Workers Pilot 'putting crops at risk'

MPs from all parties have condemned the UK government’s approach to the Seasonal Workers Pilot (SWP) scheme, stating that the recruitment delays are putting this year’s crops at risk.

Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) select committee chairman Neil Parish MP says British growers are not being given enough consideration, while verseas labour is still very much needed as the Government drive to recruit more domestic labour will fail to meet demand for the summer harvest.

NFU Scotland Horticulture committee chairman Iain Brown has also said fresh produce will b e left to rot unless the government takes action.
