Breeder creates beverage to mark special year.
EUROPLANT Pflanzenzucht GmH, which has been breeding and distributing potato varieties for every purpose and all climatic zones for 30 years, has created a potato beer together with the DAS FREIE estate brewery.
It used its variety RUMBA, a medium-early processing variety for flakes. The result was a strong, golden-yellow lager with a balanced, malty-earthy character that develops a slightly herbaceous bitterness as it is consumed.
The breeder decided to create the beer to mark its anniversary, and those who attended the recent PotatoEurope at Rittergut Bockerode had a chance to sample the beer. The process for making it is revealed on the company's website.
