Free-buy price gain
THIS week's UK free-buy price gained a further £10.49/t to £155.82/t according to AHDB figures.
The gain has been driven by increased movement of higher value varieties last week, along with some upward movement in ex-farm prices for the same material.
The free-buy tonnage traded by the sample last week was reduced by more than 20%, despite overall tonnage only dropping by 1%. Compared to the same week last year, free-buy tonnage (on a like-for-like basis) is almost double, which AHDB says highlights the significant effect the pandemic had on the potato trade in June 2020.
The WAPS values are weighted averages calculated from volume and value data from all market sectors. The average price includes both free-buy and contract purchases.
