Demand falls after bank holiday
FOLLOWING a busy previous week, coinciding with school half term and the bank holiday in the UK, demand fell for the fresh chip (bags) sector, according to AHDB.
Its recent report stated that the warm weather is energising trade for certain parts of the industry. But this is not necessarily causing extra demand, merely shifting it away from other sectors.
Many growers are now reporting to have completely emptied stores in preparation for the 2021 new crop, but for others there is still more than usual on farm, AHDB stated.
