Contracted is driver for slight price increase

AN increase of contracted material has been the main driver for an increase in the overall Weekly Average Price Survey (WAPS) price for potatoes since last week, the AHDB has reported.
Overall tonnage has increased on the week, but is still behind levels recorded last year, but contracted material continues to predominate the sample
Movement of old-crop material has almost ceased completely now as new-crop takes over.
The WAPS values are weighted averages calculated from volume and value data from all market sectors. The average price includes both free-buy and contract purchases. The free-buy price includes free-buy data only.
